I believe that eenieMini has the right diagnosis. I just experienced this the other night. I tried to transfer files to my Internal Storage and decided I'd check Disk Drive instead of what I normally do leaving it on Active Sync. To my amusement, my internal storage didn't show up and I was like wtf. I unplugged and reconnected and left it at Active Sync and my internal storage showed up. Just another one of those undocumented features.
