i finally got this working. it took me forever and i've setup remote desktop before using xp and vista. but for some reason Terminal Services was not started and thus my computer was not listening on port 3389. it was driving me crazy because i knew i setup my router correctly and i couldn't even connect via wi-fi on the same network.

anyway, it's up and running and using 16-bit color and fit to screen is great. i'm pleased at just how fast and responsive it is even over evdo. it just looks great.
