No, no one can help unless you can recode and debug the SMS application. And it isnt a problem, it is a annoyance at best because it doesnt perform how you want or expect it to.
However, a work-a-round (if you want to call it that) is when you open a new SMS if you start typing a name it will filter them as you go and then you can select them
