A working bypass that I started a few days back was to install Rhodium Keyboard Control and map the ok hardkey to close an app on long hold. Works well once you start to ignore the on screen X.

Yuck, that's exactly the reason I stuck with 21864 after trying out 23xxx for a day. I hope newer builds of 23xxx fix that.
