what does the beam icon do
 
i have been reading on how to make the battery last longer..they said to turn of the beam..do i need that for anything interenet , wi-fi etc.

and someone was saying they have Seido extended OEM battery
where do you buy those..thanks

The beam needs to be on only for... beaming information. It's the infrared port on the device.

oh so if i dont use IR , i can just leave it off..which would free some memory...is the right..thanks for the reply pibe38

Well no...

From your other thread on the Touch forum I assume you have a Touch. The Sprint Touch does not have an IR port, the option is there because it is part of the OS as far as I know.

Also, turning off something like IR would have no effect on memory, only on battery life.
