What the heck is with Android 2.1

I could be mistaken but I believe this is being released with Android 2.1. Hasn't 2.2 been out for several months and isn't 3.0 about to released?

This is a great looking phone but I'd be worried about being stuck with an old OS even though it is a brand new phone.

It will be getting 2.2 before the end of the year. From what I read the carriers already have 2.2 and are doing their "thing"...the international versions are already upgraded to froyo.
