Bonsai v4.1.3 has been released

This is the final release of the v4 Bonsai series (Froyo) for the Samsung Epic. We are in early beta with the v5 Bonsai series (Gingerbread) and are making this bug fix release in the interim for what is our most stable ROM version.

The changes in this release are minor updates to resolve an issue where some people were getting device lockups while typing text input in virtual keyboard, dialer apps, etc. We believe that this release has solve what appears to be a memory leak that leads to these issues.

The most significant change in this release is a switch to a new packaging and installer scripting functionality. We believe that this will solve many (all?) of the installation inconsistencies that we have been seeing. We have been using this new install process on the Bonsai v5 beta ROM as well as our new Samsung Tablet ROM with great success. The only downside is lack progress reporting during the install process. Please be patient. It will complete.

As part of the changes in the installation process, we have also decided to default to journaling enabled for any new installation. If you have installed Bonsai v4.1.1 or later, then this installation will honor your previous configuration preferences. Please see the release notes for more information about why we have switched to journaling enabled.

We have also made the change to use the ondemand governor for cpufrequency. The increased phone performance that we get using this governor has been quite popular in the Gingerbread Bonsai v5 testing. However, there is some sacrifice in battery life. If you are not happy with battery performance with this release, we recommend that you revert the configuration to use the conservative cpufrequency governor.

One other minor change is to finally fix the issue with configuring bypass of the Sprint proxies for web content access. If you see any negative impact in web browsing or other content streaming, please report the issue in the Bonsai forums so we can investigate further.

Please see the Installation documentation for step-by-step install instructions.

Please see the release notes for specific information about this release.
