Screen Rotation/General Operation is Slooooooow

Sprint Epic, stock Froyo, rooted with Clockwork.

So when the update came out it wouldn't install because I'd removed a whole bunch of stock apps. After following the wonderful info found here about how to update to Froyo byway of Odin and hard resets, I got Froyo and all my original data on here.

Now, a number of weeks later, I'm getting irritated by how slow my phone moves. Screen rotation is absolutely the worst, taking a full 3 seconds to change; on paper that doesn't sound bad, but trust me, it's infuriating having to wait for the screen to rotate before you can do anything, otherwise you'll try to push an icon and end of pushing something else after it rotates. I've also realized that it takes quite a few seconds for program windows to load, like when I go to my texts, open up the phone, etc. I've very careful to only have running what I need running so that the memory isn't bogged down. I don't recall having this issue much when I was using Eclair. I thought maybe it was a Froyo thing, but my friend just got her Epic this week, and after rooting it for her and installing a few key apps, her phone still rotates like lightning compared to mine.

Did you recalibrate the accelometer? Odin tends to flush the calibration data..

I did calibrate. I think that actually made it worse.
Note that it DOES rotate...it's just slow as hell.

go into the dialer and type:

*#0*#

Then hit:

Sensors

This will give you data on your accelometer..play around with it and make sure its correct

I found the fix for slow screen rotation online. It fixed both of my Epics running Froyo.

You have to calibrate the screen while the phone is upside down. Just get to the calibrate screen, then turn the phone upside down with the on screen button hanging over the edge of of the table/counter. Press the button and wait a few seconds until it's done. Fixed both of mine. What an odd fix, but it works.

You can Google "Samsung Epic fix screen rotation" if you want and find the same info.

I still haven't found a fix yet for why the "Home" screen takes so long to load some times after backing out of programs.

My phone is rooted, but my wife's is not.

I actually saw this info in another thread (probably your post) and tried it. Unfortunately once I got to the sensors screen I really didn't know what I was looking at or what to do. Have any further instructions?

I'm going to give this a shot and see if it helps.

Thanks to you both.

Just did the upside down calibration...worked perfectly! Thanks!!! If it didn't I was going to try a restore to when I first installed Froyo, then reload my data. Now I won't have to bother (and it probably wouldn't have worked anyway).
