[GUIDE] Fix for no GPS lock after Froyo flash
[FIX][GPS][CONFIRMED] Fix for no GPS lock after Froyo flash
This is based on the post by SINN, as well as the method I, and many others have used to get mine working. Okay, Let's go do this... Method 1 (Do First): 1) Start from a DI18 ROM/Modem with WORKING GPS 2) ODIN in DK28 Modem 3) Restart and verify GPS lock in DI18 ROM + DK28 Modem - It could take a minute or two 3a) If this step fails go to method 2 4) Flash a DK28 ROM, verify GPS lock Method 2 (Long Way Home): 1) Start with stock DI18 + working GPS 2) ODIN in modem 3) Restart and verify GPS functionality with DI18 ROM + DK28 GPS 2) ODIN in DK28 full 3) Restart and reverify gps lock 3a) If this step fails, take a nap, and return to step 1) 4) Reroot and flash in new DK28 based ROM 5) Reverify GPS lock |
Ya. I confirm this aswell. Dk28 rebroke ma gps. Doing those steps fixed it. And still working 3 days later.

Re: [GUIDE] Fix for no GPS lock after Froyo flash
I found another way of doing this too. I can confirm that this works.
"Fixing the GPS no fix issue on the Samsung Epic 4g requires you to do a manufacturer's reset by obtaining the MSL code from Sprint. Once you get the MSL Code, remove the SD Card and Enter ##786# on the dialer keypad. You will see two options: View and Reset. Tap on the Reset option and you will get a prompt to enter the MSL code. At this point you will be asked if you want to do a manufacter's reset, enter yes. The phone will shut down and reset itself after a few seconds. Once the process is complete, the phone will go through a hands free activation. After the activation process, updates may be downloaded and installed. Now that all updates have been performed, you may check to see if your GPS is working by going to Google Maps. You should be able to lock in GPS signal in under 10 seconds. Thats it. Your GPS woes are over." Actually it didn't automatically activate for me, I went into SprintZone and it did it from there. |

EDIT: I had to odin earlier and the automatic activation did go through when I tried it again. In fact it's way easier for DK28 doing it this way. |

Re: [GUIDE] Fix for no GPS lock after Froyo flash
Here is the solution that fixed this for me:
Im trying this fix below for the disconnects. Hopefully it works. Go to /data/gps Remove secgps.conf The file gets recreated when you use an app that requires gps. I have not had an issue with the gps losing signal since making this change. |
Re: [GUIDE] Fix for no GPS lock after Froyo flash
Reflashed to the latest midNIGHT ROM and so far so good.

Re: [GUIDE] Fix for no GPS lock after Froyo flash
first thing, GPS works fine as far as acquiring a signal lock, BUT does any1 else notice this:
when epic is stock(never rooted or anything) compass mode in street view on google maps works perfect.(also tried it on an Evo, worked fine) meaning when u search for a location(address) u can tap the address and in compass mode u can spin 360 degrees and what u see will rotate with u perfectly. ever since i went custom, compass mode in street view on google maps always shows the camera view straight into the sky and can never get it to view straight in front of me. is this sumthin new?? can it be corrected?? i reported the image to google, but jus got the regular BS email, "thank you for telling us.....we're looking into this.....thank you, come again" is this sumthin new?? or can it be corrected?? TIA add-on: tested on Epic experience rom/supernova rom/nebula rom...same result unfortunately |
Re: [GUIDE] Fix for no GPS lock after Froyo flash
Hope this thread is not dead.... I am Gingerbread and not rooted. after OTA upgrade to Gingerbread, my GPS only locks on 2 to 4 bars the rest are grey and when I lose my bars (all are grey) the lock is gone till I soft reset. Any ideas or help?

Re: [GUIDE] Fix for no GPS lock after Froyo flash
Just about all of the rooted custom GB rom options have the GPS fix baked in. Plus lots of other cool stuff that will keep your Epic from getting old. Might be worth looking into. If I could do it with my geekless DNA, probably anybody can.

Re: [GUIDE] Fix for no GPS lock after Froyo flash
Can you still use Z4Root??? or does this not work in gingerbread? Does this break the warranty?
|
Re: [GUIDE] Fix for no GPS lock after Froyo flash
PS, GPS Doctor seem to work best... but still not perfect... any fix out there without rooting?
|
Re: [GUIDE] Fix for no GPS lock after Froyo flash
Z4Root was never updated after Froyo. NG for GB.
Yes, rooting breaks the warranty. But you have the option of reverting back to stock (if you learn how) if you ever need a warranty replacement for a hardware issue. Don't know if there's a no-root fix or not. For more info on rooting, etc, check out QBKing's how-to videos: [ACS] [HOW TO] Root, Flash Roms/Kernels/Themes, CWM, and update!
