Verizon doubling data caps tomorrow on plans.
Verizon to begin offering double the data for your buck tomorrow as a limited time promo -- Engadget
This is confirmed as per this Engadget article. Essentially 30 bucks gets you 4gigs now instead if 2gigs. 50 bucks gets you 10gigs. Must be LTE device though so iPhone isn't eligible. Not too shabby imo. |
Re: Verizon doubling data caps tomorrow on plans.
That's BS that they're doing it only for the LTE devices. Too bad Tmo's 10GB plan is still cheaper than their 5GB plan.

Ive got unlimited data until 2013 anyways ;) |
I thought the doubling was only for the moto razor? This will work with any lte phone?

"Update 2: And we got the official nod straight from Verizon: "Beginning tomorrow, Verizon Wireless will introduce a limited time promotion that offers customers the opportunity to receive double the amount of data for the same monthly fee for all Verizon Wireless 4G smartphones. For example, a customer who purchases the 2 GB plan for $30 will receive 4 GB for $30. The plans is available for new and existing customers. Existing customers need to request the change via customer service or through their My Verizon accounts --- the free portal where customers can view and pay their bill, make changes to their account and purchase new devices." Well, welcome back! Looking forward to hearing about your experience Friday with your two new devices! I presume you ordered the Droid RAZR's that are coming 11-11-11?

Quite cursÃ* for google to pick that particular date. Almost similar to them bidding PI on some patents.

Re: Verizon doubling data caps tomorrow on plans.
Hmmm. I'm usually Anti-Verizon because of their High prices. However, I just checked through my employer discount website, and a 450 minute plan with 500 texts and 4 GB of data is $71.99 (with my 20% discount.)
Very tempting, considering the slow Sprint speeds in my area(1.2 mb/sec max.)My $30/month SERO plan is the only thing holding me back. What's their best Android phone, looks like the Droid Bionic, no? Also can the Motorola's be rooted to get wireless tether without the $30 hotspot fee(I hardly use it?) Edit: interesting, during the checkout process it says "Numbers not available. Change city/state to proceed" So I can't get a local number with a Verizon cellphone? |

RAZR coming out end of the week should be an upgrade to the Bionic. HTC Rezound is basically an EVO/Tbolt on steroids and of course the Galaxy Nexus which should be out by 11/21. All are pretty solid and have the positives and negatives. |

I might add a line for a loved one that wants the Tmo galaxy, but they have an Evo 3D...I might go back to Sprint...but Verizon doubling the speed will be great for everyone :). |
I'm really thinking of leaving Sprints unlimited data plan for the verizon 4gb plan. At least my 3g speeds would be bearable and my city currently has lte so its awin win. Only problem is verizon locking down all their phones.

Well at this point if verizon bought sprint they would at least fix the network. But im all for user choice. |
Re: Verizon doubling data caps tomorrow on plans.
Yea because sprint isn't doing shit about it even after all the dozens of complaints in their forums over it.

Re: Verizon doubling data caps tomorrow on plans.
Still using unlimited here... but I am happy Verizon is taking steps to please their customers!

These days, smartphone data plans seem to be getting more and more restricted. Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) killed unlimited tethering and rolled out the most expensive tethering plans on the market for new customers. Verizon Wireless, a joint venture between Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) and Vodafone Group Plc. (LON:VOD), and AT&T Inc. (T) both killed their unlimited data plans, replacing them with expensive metered plans [1][2]. Even Deutsche Telekom AG's (ETRTE) T-Mobile USA has smacked users with a cap, though it at least merely throttles over-cap users, offering no fines for exceeding your cap. That's why it's refreshing to see a bit of movement -- even if merely temporary -- in the other direction. Verizon Wireless is reportedly preparing to offer a double data Christmas special. Customers who buy a new 4G smartphone will be eligible to get twice the normal data. $30 USD/month buys you a doubled 2GB (4GB), $50 USD gets you 10GB and $80 USD gets you 20GB of total LTE usage. Now the sort of bad news is that apparently you have to specially request this deal and it’s going to be a very short-term promotion. And the possibly very bad news is that this may be a bait-and-switch -- Verizon has offered no promises of grandfathering new enrollees at the elevated rates for the remainder of their plans. In other words, this double data bonanza may only last a couple months, at which time the standard caps may roll in. |
Re: Verizon doubling data caps tomorrow on plans.
My Experience with Verizon, is that they have the best network in my market, and they know it. They play on the uneducated consumer, and use a marketing technique of bait and switch. I remember a few years back they promoted that you could switch to any plan at any time. Then without any warning, they pulled it. I tried to change plans and I was told no, there would be a charge. I pitched a fit and they gave it, but I had to quote them their own adverizements and all that.
They are notorious for changing terms. They do not sell accessories to non-customers, and will get angry at the stores if you try. I once tried to return an item during the holiday extended return season. They denied it. I got so angry, I walked away. I then read the back of the receipt, and realized that they HAD to take it back. I walked back, showed him the text, and he took it back no problem. Goes to prove that they can do more for the customers, but the policy is, whatever you can get away with, do it to the customer to increase revenue. |
