Nielsen report shows that smartphone buyers are flocking to Android

From the article:

Quote:
If you bought a smartphone in the first eight months of 2010, chances are pretty good that you picked up an Android device. The Nielsen Co. reported today that roughly one in three (32 percent) of smartphones purchased from January to August were powered by Android. In the same time period, Apple's iOS and BlackBerry's RIM platform were virtually tied for second with 25 percent and 26 percent, respectively.

Re: Nielsen report shows that smartphone buyers are flocking to Android

Interesting math. 1/3 of the phones were Android. 2/3rds (which is the majority, right?) were not. Flocking might imply more than 1 in three?

It will be interesting to see how long the oversaturation in essentially identical android devices helps increase market share. 1 (or 2 if you count the 3GS) apple iPhone and I believe 2-3 blackberry choices vs 10? android handset options/price points, and they still only managed to eek out 8% more than either in share.

The graphic in the article may make it easier to understand for you:

Notice how Android has been steadily increasing?

Heres another article from Barrons supporting the above:
The Evidence Mounts: Android Taking Share From RIMM, MSFT - Tech Trader Daily - Barrons.com

Oh, and if your into hard numbers, here is the findings from comScore.
http://www.comscore.com/Press_Events...r_Market_Share
It plainly shows that Android was the only OS that had a positive increase. All others were negative over the last couple of quarters.
