Gmail support? Filters?

Ok so I am a big hoarder of email. Mostly due to the business I am in (ISP net admin) - I keep emails going back a LONG time in outlook.

I am curious what level of labels support is included with the client - I was planning on using IMAP with gmail to move all of my mail so it is archived, after backing it up of course. Then I would probably setup an archive in outlook to pull messages older than x back out and archive them in a file somewhere.

Obviously putting them on gmail's servers gives me the ability to get to them via a web browser, and still through Outlook via IMAP, but will the Droid Gmail app be able to browse the messages? Their folders show up in gmail as labels...

Thoughts? Is there a better way without setting up an exchange server and paying the additional fee?
