screen sometimes doesn't turn sideways

The orientation sensor in the phone seems to work, because I can do the "alignment" thing (which shows two "levels" that respond when I tilt it) and sometimes it does turn the screen. But it's unpredictable; in composing an email for example, if I rotate the phone, nothing happens. What am I missing about the way it rotates portrait vs. landscape?

thanks,

Mike

Re: screen sometimes doesn't turn sideways

search for gyrator2 or changescreen.
the phone does not switch to landscape automatically while in messaging.

Re: screen sometimes doesn't turn sideways

yeah, for some reason, there's only a few screens that the screen will rotate with without extra help. the obvious ones (like the messaging screen) aren't included. kind of stupid really. if you don't configure gyrator correctly, it gets really annoying, because EVERY screen will rotate. some screens aren't meant to be rotated (like the incoming call screen--turns black when rotated).

Re: screen sometimes doesn't turn sideways

Yeah g-sensors (gyros) have to be taken advantage of in the software. If they are not programmed to recognize and use them, then the screen won't respond to the tilting of the device. Using an app like Changescreen mentioned above will force the change and should work in many apps, though some may be visually skewed if they were not designed to work in Landscape at all.

Re: screen sometimes doesn't turn sideways

+1 on changecreen. I used it and then went into the config and told it to work the way I wanted it to and it is working great. So far, doing everything I want it to and not finding any bad side effects that I've noticed so far and its been a few days since I installed it.
