Text counter display when sending text messages?

I don't have a counter to display character XX/160, like I did with my Mogul. I don't see that option in settings. Long pressing on the screen doesn't do anything either.

Does android have the functionality to give you a running text count?

i noticed this as well, but when i did go over 160, it alerted me inside the text box it said something liek 160/2, and it will count down from 160.

I would suggest Handcent SMS it is free and has a counter, pop-ups, iph style bubbles, and speech to text ability. It was the second app I downloaded and I have loved it ever since!

in the help menu it tells you that the counter will let you know when you are getting close to 160.. That is just what I read.
