Talking UMTS Bands Telus

Does anyone know if the UMTS 850/1900 are available to be unlocked on this device.

I am guessing this is not an issue for Verizon and Sprint users, however, telus and Bell in Canada are building a 3G + network that may be fired up later this year using the same 3G bands as AT&T 850/1900.

In my opinion, the device has more value if it can be used on 850/1900 UMTS bands.

I played with device today, its a little bigger and heavier, the keyboard is awesome, the only issue holding me back is the ability to use on new Telus network.

I have seen some posts on Howard Forums related to some users have believe it may be unlocked for 850/1900 UMTS bands, I am hoping they are correct.

Thanx

Dave

While having almost no technical knowledge of 3g bands, I did ask the Telus rep today if the tp2 was going to be usable on the upcoming HSPA network.... He said yes, but I'm not so sure of the reliability of these telus reps....

Re: UMTS Bands Telus

Shaggylive,

You are correct, the CDMA network uses 850/1900, Telus and Bell Canada are building a HSPA network that will also use 850/1900 bands UMTS, 3G+.

According to Telus Data Support, the National network is built, they are testing and tweaking right now for launch.

The rumors seem to say a soft launch in the fall, the Official Telus word is Jan/10.

If the Telus re in the other post is correct, if its Customer care, I doubt they know, if its data support person that I spoke to last week , I would say the customer care has no idea. That was mid last week and phone was not announced, maybe they could not advise.

The phone spec shows GSM bands 850/1900, only 2100 for UMTS, Telus and bell are not launching GSM network, just HSPA.

If anyone has any concrete info, like have been able to unlock device as well as 850/1900 UMTS bands, that would be helpful

Re: UMTS Bands Telus

So do we have any update on this, not only for the TP2 but for any possible hint of an HD2?
