Memory Issues

Apparently I am having some memory issues I was hoping someone could guide me on...

I got a message saying something along the lines that my phone was out of memory and I should delete files. I looked at the memory in the settings and it shows Storage Total of 88.17 MB, In Use 84.25 MB, leaving Free 3.92 MB.

But, I haven't really installed too much stuff. I put s2u2, s2v, google maps, and some light saber app I found (as well as the HTC dll's needed to run it). I also only have like 3 photos on the phone.

Is that a normal amount of memory? I thought this thing had like 8 GB of storage. Why is mine only reading like 100 MB?

Re: Memory Issues

Do you use Opera? That was my culprit. His default is put its cache and downloads in main memory. This can be changed by using Opera and going to opera:config.

If you just want to check if it IS the cache, causing the problem. Delete the cache contents by going into Settings.

Re: Memory Issues

Get either MemMaid or SKTools. Use either to delete all the temp files from PIE (other browsers, too), cache files, etc.

I use both and every ppc should have at least one of the above products.

Ok, this is going to sound silly, but how do I delete the cache? I do use Opera (A LOT I might add) and I clear my History about once a day, but I'm not sure how to clear the cache.

As mentioned in the previous posts, use a utility like memmaid or SKTools to clean out the cache. They are useful for a LOT more than just that, I run Memmaid almost daily just to clear out the junk!!

P.S. I agree that the Opera cache is most likely causing your memory issues!!

MobileMonger

MobileMonger is a great port of the original SpaceMonger for PC. It gives you a graphical representation of all your data, and you can INSTANTLY recognize the space hogs. I found Opera's cache in 2 seconds that way.

Basically, it shows your device as a square (or rectangle). Inside this square are your files - the bigger the file, the bigger the square / rectangle. I LOVE this beauty! Runs great on my XV6700 w/ Helmi's 6.1 ROM, so it should run just fine on the Omnia.

Re: Memory Issues

ill use this opp to brake my cherry ... go go gadget first post so im thinking that the low memory might be due to the device memory and the storage memory being of a um a testicular nature there in the same sack just calling them self's different ( yes my nutz talk to me just its in Spanish so i don't understand ) things "Rather, it is considered to be a storage card, dubbed My Storage. Interesting." is a quote from the review of the i900 found on http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=por...ws&id=1089&p=3 this page this might help you under stand why your memory is so low

To clear the cache, use Opera->Settings->Privacy->Delete Cache

As for MemMaid, I use it and clean daily with Opera Cache checked as a location to get cleaned. However, my cache directory doesn't get cleaned. I use Total Commander to go my cache directory and it still has files in it after cleaning. After using Opera to delete the cache, it's clean. I don't know if it's because I moved the cache from main memory to My Storage or not.

Has anyone using MemMaid moved the cache and found MemMaid still cleans it? I do like MemMaid and schedule a cleaning every morning but I don't find it is deleting my opera cache. Could it be that it only works in the default location? (\Application Data\Opera9\cache)

I have the i910. Can you give me "step-by-step" instructions how to complete this? What am I supposed to look for? What do i have to shift or create?

I have seen in some places that you have to copy files from the device to the storage disk. I am new and I do not want to make ANY mistakes. I just want to be sure no detial is missed on my end. thanks.
