Using an unlocked Telus HTC Diamond on Sprint network??
Okay Guys...
Someone in this forum has to know the answer to my question. Back story is simple. I've been with Telus (in Canada) for about 9 months. I want the HTC Diamond... right now I have the touch. I am friends with a rep who says they can get me the phone in the next 2 or so weeks for 250 dollars.. bought outright with no contract extention. I am moving from Canada to Florida in Jauary of next year, just after this december. My thoughts were to then sell my HTC Touch and contract when I move down south and take my Diamond with me. The big question is if I unlock it will I be able to use the Diamond on the Sprint network? I see the options as this: If I cant use it down there it's no big deal I just keep my phone and put it on a pay as you go contract or something on the telus network as I do plan on coming back up here once a month for work. What are the price plans for the phone on contract with Sprint? In Canada its going on sale for $150 for a 3 year contract, $349 on a 2 year, $399 on a 3 year. etc etc. As you can see the outright buy at $250 is a really REALLY good deal. SO yeah like I said.. the big question is will I be able to use the Telus Diamond (which is CDMA) on the Sprint network if I unlock it. Fingers crossed and thanks for anyone who replys!!! Aaron |

Re: Using an unlocked Telus HTC Diamond on Sprint network??
I cannot gaurantee this as correct, but I believe the answer is no. I used to work in a sprint store and had multiple customers try to activate a device from a different CDMA carrier. Whenever the ESN was scanned to activate, an error would be given basically stating unknown device. Do not know if the device had been unlocked though.

Technically could buy a sprint phone, and clone esn data over.(Pain in the ***, and still no guarantee), and although all carriers were ordered to unlock phones, and make them non carrier specific this hasn't happened yet. So no sprint will not activate your ESN on their network, unless something big changes soon.

Re: Using an unlocked Telus HTC Diamond on Sprint network??
There is no legal way to make a Telus (or any other non-Sprint phone) work on the Sprint network.
I'm not sure about Verizon, but I think that's true for them also. I believe that Alltel does accept non-branded phones on their network, but not positive about that either.

Re: Using an unlocked Telus HTC Diamond on Sprint network??
I have had verizon motorola q, flash over to alltel, and place it without a probelm, i have also used us cellular phones, flashed over to alltel, and sprint, so alltel has an open policy, so if you wanted to go wiht alltel. Also verizon is saying they will open up there netowrk in 2008. so if this ever does happen maybe you can always try verizon.

Re: Using an unlocked Telus HTC Diamond on Sprint network??
Hey,
If you want to use a Telus HTC Diamond, sadly it can't work with any other provider as they have strict rules of having foreign ESN on thier network. So if you are going to Sprint/Verizon/AllTel etc, need to buy thier Ver of the phone. Sorry dude. I tried to use Verizon on Telus, they can't do it... I had to change the ESN number to match my old phone.... and it worked. |

I don't know about Florida, If they have cricket, you can activate it on Cricket. I think Metro PCS might activate foreign ESNs too

Re: Using an unlocked Telus HTC Diamond on Sprint network??
Its possible if you feel like hacking the phone a little and taking whatever phone youre currently using on Sprint and copying all its settings to the Diamond. Im not sure if the phone youre copying needs to be a PDA phone but it helps. ... i think you would need the diagnostic drivers for the Diamond. They might on the drivers cd if you have that. Are the Diamond diag or WModem drivers around? Anyone ever connect a diamond to a pc and use QPST or CDMA?
