I see reviews mentioning this client that does msn, aim, and yahoo. what is it??

Go with Palringo. It has all the chat clients plus its got palringo messanger that has voice messaging and picture mail style messaging. and its 100% free.

Let's not forget to add Slick in the mix as well... You can send/receive files with it.
