if im correct i believe the pim.vol file in the my device view of file explorer keeps your text messages, copy that to your storage card or something and after you flash copy it back to your phone. Id wait to see if someone else can confirm this, im not 100% sure

Re: I plan to flash my ROM, what files should I backup to transfer after flashing?
I abandonded backup programs when the rom craze hit.
Instead I keep two zip files on my storage card. 1. Windows.zip - All sounds in \windows dir, and some misc exe files like pacman, mspacman and their links 2. MyDocuments.zip - My ringer files, documents, and excell files from the \my documents folder. 3. I use pimbackupv2.7 to save my messages. 4. All my cab files are in a dir called \storage card\reload for easy re-install After I flash, I re-connect to activesync to get your contacts. Unzip the two files contents to their directorys Set up your e-mail accounts. Then I restore my pimbackupv2.7 data to get my text messages back. I then goto work on my .cab files and other user customizations. I've had lots of practice and do a complete re-flash.....back_to_normal in about an 45 minutes Note: If you restore the pimbackup then sync, all your contacts will be on your phone twice.

Re: I plan to flash my ROM, what files should I backup to transfer after flashing?
Definitely do what rstoyguy suggested.
Pim.vol did not work on my Sprint Touch. I copied it over to the storage card, and after a re-flash, copied it back to the device. I reset, and then was unable to get a radio signal. Strange problem, but that's what happened. I even tried reseting about 4 times. Then, I deleted the pim.vol file, reset, and radio was back. The device re-creates a pim.vol file for you. I just did this as a test, because it would be quicker than using PimBackUp.exe. It didn't work, so I'm sticking to the PimBackup program. It's free to use and available here. http://www.dotfred.net/PIM/PPCPimBackupV2.8_wm2005.zip It's up to version 2.8. Best part, there's no installation needed for Pimbackup. It's an exe file that you can run from your storage card. I keep a copy in the \storage card\Program Files folder. When I need to make a back up, I just go to that folder and run the exe.
