Is it possible to map the in-call mute button to a hardware button

I have a AT&T Tilt (Kaiser) and have hacked my PTT button so that I can assign applications to it. I would like to know if it is possible to assign the in-call phone mute to this button so that I can toggle between mute and unmute while on a call. The AEButton app did not help.
