Re: How to Build a ROM so it displays your name

The file that sets the registry "ROMVersion" is "mxipupdate_zzPIED_100.provxml" that is in most roms out there.
Quote:

<characteristic type="Registry">
<characteristic type="HKLM\Software\OEM" translation="filesystem" >
<parm name="ROMVersion" datatype="string" value="RSTG_1.09.651.5" translation="filesystem" />
</characteristic>
</characteristic>

I don't think that I have ever flashed one of your ROMs, tobey, so this is more of a question from the curious or maybe just for the sake of argument ...

If the above (properly formed and named _setup.xml) were included in a cab file and executed post-flash, would the "Settings > System > Device Information" remain? If so, that's a neat trick ... I've never seen a ROM pull that information from anywhere other than "HKLM\Software\OEMROMVersion".

Best regards,
-boggsie

Indagroove, I'd also like to have your rom building tutorial. You'e been such a help to me that I continue to express that sentiment in my signature.

If you use PPCkitchen, your name will be baked into the about screen automatically.

1) download any kitchen (PPCkitchen is the most friendly)
2) build

If you're talking about making a kitchen base, read RSToyGuy's tutorial on how to use DogGuy's kitchen maker (but don't use Bepe's buildos, use PPCkitchen; it's easier and better)

If you're really talking about how to make a clean base...best of luck.

Re: How to Build a ROM so it displays your name

get off your soap box mr. "biggest player" I hate ppl who luv to toot their horn.

anyways, I am a big believer in sharing & helping others to here it goes OP...

after cooking your rom, open your .nbh in any hex editor. Attached is a free one.

once you have opened the .nbh, do a ctrl+G (if using the attached app), click on hexadecimal, then enter address 004D4E34, this is about where the rom version begins. you can change it here then save & flash.
Attached Files
File Type: zip hex.zip (494.3 KB, 23 views) Click for barcode!

Re: How to Build a ROM so it displays your name

Lol, ok
Either way, giving a specific hex location is useless since each base will have a different one.
I also believe in sharing and helping others, which is why we share our kitchen and every tweak and program that goes with it, as well as a few walkthroughs. The ONLY think you would need a more advanced knowledge to properly (I mean, not just hex editing a string) would be the ROM Version, and I think there's a logo in the customization screen.

Re: How to Build a ROM so it displays your name

let me refraise: there is a black box that appears when you open the build my rom, at the top mine says c4rbon kitchen's BUILD MY ROM!

the Q: How do i make one of these!!!!? I want to write one myself, (this one says "this program was written by Tobeychris and Ghettofreeryder.") and is this a c++ program?
