You are a professional and you should act as such and be as knowledgeable or more than any other non-professional. It is hard to be more knowledgeable then some geeks but you should be tied into the same places they are so you can be caught up as much as they are. Complacency is rampant in the American workforce. Don't believe me? go to any government agency, they represent the country and they are the worst. Go to any retail store, they are horrible at knowing wtf is going on in their own companies, i.e. neighboring store's activities. Sprint should have done a much better job at disseminating the proper info for a much anticipated release. That store manager should be reprimanded for not sharing his knowledge with his front line staff. That rep should be pissed at the manager for not cluing him in. That Tech should be ashamed that he is a non-geek in a geek job. He got info slapped by a more knowledgeable customer.
Although I am sure that you are completely knowledgeable and expert on every aspect of your own job and your own employer, Sprint today has 47 different devices listed as currently available on its website. I doubt even you, with your obviously superior technical skills and memory, could know everything there is to know about not only all 47 of those devices, but also all of the devices discontinued in the past few years that are still supported, plus learn all about the devices soon to be released, while also being expert on all of the plans offered as well as all corporate policies and procedures. Oh yes, don't forget about knowing all about the ways to circumvent plan restrictions and corporate policies...and keeping up with all of the non-OEM ROM compilations being distributed on all of the forums, as well as all of the rumors being bandied about...

I do not work for Sprint, but I have more reasonable expectations about the people who do work there.

That is absolutely NOT true. All you have to do is go to sprint.com and use the store locator. If it's an official store it will be called "Sprint Store-NNN" (NNN is the store number). If it's a 3rd party, it will have the name of the company servicing the store.

Re: Official Sprint ROM 3.35.651.2? Not according to the tech at the local repair cen

While Sprint may have many phones, only a few will be undated with any regularity, Once or twice for the 6700(I think), three times for the Mogul, and maybe an upcoming Touch or two. I'm sure the non-touchscreen phones might be bumped to WM6 or something. I could be wrong, but there is certainly not much activity on this forum for most of the other phones. It seems like only a small handfull of phones over several years would need more than a cursory study. For most of the others, the users would just care if it worked or it didn't. That said, I appreciate the help and activity of the Sprint employees on this site. You have always been great. Just be careful, no business benefits when its employees get defensive (not that anybody has.) lol

Oh man. I really hope you never get a Medical Dr with that same point of view. Not picking a fight, I'm just saying...

As far as I'm concerned, it is reasonable for a specialized professional to be very knowledgeable about his of her chosen specialized field. It's not like the thread starter asked the guy to bake a cake, lol

I'm just saying

Your analogy may be even better than you think...Medical doctors receive just a little more training and also get paid just slightly more than Sprint technicians. However, medical doctors will often refer a patient to a specialist because, despite the extensive training and exorbitant pay rate, they do not know enough about all medical subjects to competently treat all ailments in all areas of all bodies.

Maybe part of the misunderstanding is thinking of a front-line cell phone technician as a professional on par with a doctor or an engineer. Get real; these people, as good people as most of them are, do not receive the kind of pay to motivate them to spend a lot of off hours keeping up with the latest in the industry, nor are they given the kind of training and support to acquire it on the job.

I am not defending every action or inaction by every cell phone tech; I am just saying, get off their case and be more reasonable in your expectations of them. Do not expect every tech to have the same level of passion about all 47 current Sprint devices as you have for your one device.
