Wheres is all the RAM?

Alright I've had this phone for a week... I like it, however I'm noticing a dire lack of usable system RAM in this thing. According to the Verizon website it should have 512 Flash/208 RAM - so thats 208 RAM for programs, windows is reporting 140.69 MB now with touch wiz off, and the today screen off. Running Spd mobile shell 3.5 I am using an astounding 94.18 MB with only a free 46.51 MBs to run programs, this is very unacceptable.

Re: Wheres is all the RAM?

I agree with Sonic Boom - I regularly run around 60MB free with just SPB Shell running...

Re: Wheres is all the RAM?

Sure did, I am also running that elegance package on spd, with only lifestyle being used. Still 60 mbs for a high end phone is still way lower then it should be

Re: Wheres is all the RAM?

The phone has 208MB of RAM, with ~64MB or so reserved for the phone and PDA functions, which leaves ~140-145MB or so available for the actual running of programs (which includes windows). I generally start with ~80MB free, running down to ~70 over the course of the day (idle), using Titanium as my UI:

Just for comparison, the HTC Imagio ships with 288MB of RAM, with ~170 available for running programs (Including Windows). Most users report about 60-40MB free with TouchFLO running. I was able to get my Imagio up to about 70MB by turning off TouchFLO and disabling every HTC service. My experience has been that although the Omnia 2 has less RAM, it manages the memory much better than the Imagio.

Re: Wheres is all the RAM?

I am glad this discussion has come up. I am getting my TP2 today, and am not sure I will keep it. I spent many days going back and forth between the O2 and the TP2. The difference in the RAM was probably the one which pushed me to try the TP2 first (and the fact that it is online only, whereas if I want to switch to the O2, I can do the swap at the local store). I definitely want a phone which has plenty of USEABLE RAM, coming from the handicapped VZW TP1. I would assume the TP2 has very similar performance to the Imagio? If there are any users who have used both the TP2 and the O2 and can give some thoughts as to each one's RAM performance, I would be forever grateful!

Re: Wheres is all the RAM?

I thinking a few programs that I installed are not playing nice, so I need to to a hard reset, and reload, anyone know how to hard set the o2?

You will be able to hard reset Omnia 2 to factory default just like Omnia. However the 3rd party programs that come with the official firmware will be left intact. The 3rd party programs installed by your service provider maybe lost after the hard reset. If you have already activated Agis NavPhone GPS program before hard reset, you may need to contact Agis Helpdesk for re-activation instruction.
Hard Reset of Omnia 2
  1. First switch off your phone
  2. Next hold Volumn Up + Screen Lock
  3. Then hold Green and Power Button together
  4. Then press Answer Call (left) button to confirm hard reset
You must hold the Volume Up + Screen Lock + Green + Power together and hold onto it. Release all once you see the Hard Format Screen.
Master Reset of Omnia by DialPad
You can also key in the following code to the dial pad to do a Master Reset
