anybody have information to assist me..
 

in discovering what update my friend got on his samsung moment? he bought it after the 2.1 official came out so i'm not sure if it was preloaded (doubtful) or if they just did it in store because when he started messing with it, it had 2.1 on it.

i'm trying to find this out so i can see if it is possible to root, and it is kinda nessisary(sp?) to know this information, for instance the cl14 update route of rooting, the 1.5 route.. etc.

anyways, any information would be very helpful.

thank you in advance and i searched but wasn't successful, i'm not as good at searching forums as i am on searching google.. lol.

Settings/About Phone, scroll down to Baseband version, the last 4 will be cl14 or de03, cl14 means 1.5 and de03 means 2.1

Both can be rooted, are you planning on putting someone else's rom on there or making your own?

Want root access to load live wallpaper, and I wouldn't mind making my own I used to do winmo ROMs and would like to mess with droid stuff but I messed up and updated before I rooted.. i have an Eris myself..

Second site has some configurations that include root. I used it to install a ROM and live wallpapers with different boot images, and it worked really well. Used the first site to root it, and it includes all the drivers/software you need, which is very convenient.

unfortunately, the live wallpapers make our precious Moment's lag like hell. Unless you are running the stock launcher with no widgets/shortcuts.

It's not too horrible if you have a light rom with a good kernel, any of you guys try the meatkernel?

ANY kernel unfortunately. The moment HAS the graphics capabilities, but is hindered by Sammy's shitty drivers. The kernel can only take it so far.

That's why I was sure to say TOO horrible. I am currently running a custom rom with most of the samdroid turbo stuff and meatcurtains kernel, getting between 4.9 and 5.2 mflops and have the star trek planet wallpaper (i think that's what it's called), it currently has about as much lag as the stock rom has. And that's with the google search widget & a picture frame widget on launcher pro.
