the normal swupgrader isnt capable of opening the binary folder when u swap out the .tar file, but the CL14 upgrader is. the .tar file that u are swapping to will enable your phone to access custom roms by going into recovery mode (VOL DOWN+TALK+END) this recovery mode allows u to install custom roms from your sd card.

even if we have 2.1 is it necessary to download the cl14upgrader? sorry for all the questions..just need better understanding

no problem, it took me 2 days to figure this out myself because i initially installed the stock update from sprint and i wanna help ppl get the joy i have with my new functions.

uninstall your current updater.

go to www.sdx-developers.com and u will find the CL14 updater there.

also download the joeykrim recovery file (the .tar file u will swap in the updater)

make sure u select a custom rom from that site and add the rom to your sd card.

install your CL14 updater, swap the .tar files, upgrade your phone like u did before.

once your phone restarts, shut it down and go into recovery mode using VOL DOWN+TALK+END

select install .zip from sd card. u will be able to install ur selected custom rom of choice in this recovery mode

WITHOUT the joeykrim recovery (swapped .tar file) u will not have the recovery mode needed to install the custom rom that have the live wallpaper ability and 3D gallery

basically the deal with the CL14 SWupdater and the "new" updater, is that the new updater has a checksum included into it (which is the reason why the file in the binary is a tar.md5 file). so this means that we can't use a different .tar files in the binary folder because it doesn't have the same checksum...

so there are two alternatives:
1. download the old cl14 swupdater, which doesn't have this check... or
2. download the patch for the new updater that louziffer most graciously provided (http://forum.sdx-developers.com/andr...-the-old-one!/)

using that, and assuming you have 2.1 on your phones already,

install recovery (which will allow you to install applications, themes, etc easier)
install root

ok i will try again after i get off work..i deleted the swupdater tht was on my desktop tht sprint had me download but when i clicked on the link to download the cl14 it looked like the very same icon i deleted..it too was swupdater...smh...will the cl14 walk me thru just like the sprint one did?

everything will be the same, its just that sprint updater will not open the binary folder after u have swapped out the .tar file but the CL14 updater will :)

Yea I finally got my live wallpaper and custom rom installed!!! A guy named Jay emailed me exactly what to do.. I was so scared to do it but gosh I love the 3d gallery as well! Thanx to all who helped!!

now download a custom rom of choice and add it to your memory card, there are several to download from www.sdx-developers.com , just read carefully to understand what ur options are.(i have http://www.sdx-developers.com/sdx/ca...-2-1-dd10-rom/ because it is one that includes the 3D pic gallery)

once this is all done, install the update to your phone using the CL14 Updater.

after the update, your phone will reboot.

turn your phone off and go into recovery mode by HOLDING THE VOLUME DOWN+TALK+END buttons(u are able to go into this recovery mode because you've swapped out the .tar file)

you will be able to gain access to your sd card and install the custom rom of choice there.

once u have installed the rom, it will ask u to press HOME to confirm. do so, and u are done. :)

this worked fine all the way up to the point that I had to select the rom from my SD and nothing showed up, is there a specific place I need to save the rom zip?

*edit* nevermind I figured it out, it has to be copied to the root file.
