Will Android 2.2 Release Beat Sprint 2.1 Release?

So I just heard the news about the Android 2.2 Release coming soon (in like a week). This is getting crazy that we still have not received the android 2.1 release for our phones. I'm not sure what the problem is, but every time I talk to Sprint they blame Google for the delay. Anyway It looks like 2.2 will be released soon and we still have not received the 2.1 update.

Or maybe the 2.2 update is the holdup and sprint will be releasing a 2.2 android update for all the phones. As a developer it would really be nice to have the latest version on my phone without resorting to unlocking and using a prerelease version.

Anyway here is an article on the 2.2 version, what do you guys think?

Re: Will Android 2.2 Release Beat Sprint 2.1 Release?

I tend to agree with the remarks made. We're still on 1.5. How is this acceptable? Not even 1.6. Still the original first update. In a market that is based on technology, and the features of devices you would think a company like Sprint would be tripping over themselves to get one of their newest and increasingly more popular phones up to the latest version. So many good apps that can't even run on this phone because Sprint is just taking their sweet old time working out whatever it is they need to work out.

That's like building a brand spanking new gaming PC with the latest everything and installing Windows XP for your base OS. Sure it'll run a good chunk of stuff but at this point you're really short selling yourself on gaining the full experience out of the money you dumped into hardware.

I mean sure, I could dump 2.1 on here but it's not official, it has issues and I'm not about to become a beta tester.

i agree. the 2.1 update will be here just in time to be outdated out the gate.... but even though sprint releases 2.1, would there be a 2.2 upgrade later? i mean froyo was made to combat fragmentation so it would be logical that most phones should be forced to upgrade, plus the moment's specs are good enough to be considered

btw... 2.1 has officially been released by sprint. it's supposed to be announced tomorrow 5/14, but you can download it from their website under the current CL14 link.
