newbie to android

i know steps have been posted a million times on how to root your moment and put 2.1 on it. i used windows mobile for the last 3 or so years and i always flashed custom roms here and there so i am no stranger to it. but my android experience is just starting and i am wandering if ex-windows mobile users can tell me which is easier to fool with. wm seemed so easy compared to what i have read on rooting and flashing the moment. how long does the process actually take and exactly what is the number of steps to be taken from a stock moment. i did the dl14 or whatever update thing already but that is as far as i have gone. i have downloaded the

sph-m900_mr2_rel_joeykrim-recovery-2.13,

the update_calkulin's_moment_2.1_rom_v1.3a, and the

data_backup_calkulin's_moment_2.1_rom_v1.3.

now as far as i can tell by reading i have those listed in the order i need to load them on the phone. what else am i missing?

Re: newbie to android

just loaded the sph-m900-mr2-rel-joeykrim-recovery-2.13 and it appears i am running 2.1 already. that was two steps so far, dl14 update and the joeykrim. is that it? am i rooted with 2.1? my firmware version under settings is 2.1-update 1 and my build number reads eclair.ddo3. was it really that simple or is there more steps to take? i am getting on market and was able to sign into my google account.
