Honestly, I don't know. I use ChompSMS (free in the Market) and it is very easy in that app. I just tried in the stock messaging app and I don't see how to do it. Sorry that i couldn't help but I do recommend that you try ChompSMS because not only is it better than stock messaging but also makes it easy to save your pics (in the future).

thanks! what about text fowarding i'm in limbo trying to figure that out also?

To save a picture that was sent via MMS
Long press on the picture this will make a menu appear, then click on COPY ATTACHED TO SD CARD...

To forward the message
Long press for menu and click FORWARD

Yeah, I did see that option but thought it was not the correct one because:

a. I don't use the stock sms/mms app,
b. I couldn't believe they only gave you the option to save to the SD card,
c. I was tired and must not have felt like trying it; my bad.
