Yeah, he cranks them out fast. I put up version 12.1 for the tutorial because it was considered his most recent "stable" one when I did the tutorial...

And personally, I wouldn't overclock my Moment. It just feels like I am asking for trouble.

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on Samsung Moment

Finally, success!
I too had a Moment already upgraded out of the box. I had to downgrade first then upgrade it.
Also, I had a hell of a time with it sticking on <1>setup connection
I finally found out why. After installing Samsung New Studio, you must open New Studio, go to Settings>Option and uncheck all the boxes, then restart the computer. This keeps New Studio from loading on PC startup and automatically starting when your device is connected.
After flashing back to CJ05, you must reboot the phone, let it completely start up, then reboot it again and shut it down before going to Download Mode and flashing the upgrade/update.

Thanks for the specific details of how you got it working. Since there seems to be some confusion and update issues with those who already have the stock CL14 update, I will take your information and edit my OP, then write up a new entry in the FAQ with your steps listed as a solution.

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on Samsung Moment

At this point it seems like downgrading to CJ05 is just going backwards as far as development goes. The newest Kernels seem to be based off of the CL14 SBL which is more secure.

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on Samsung Moment Without Official CL14 Update

Hey Freak,
I changed the top of my how to so it's more consistent with the top of yours... just to make it easier for everyone..
Glad we finally got the Samsung Moment Movement going!!! I've messaged some ROM developers to ask them how I can get started with attempting to build a ROM for this sucker... they're not Moment users, maybe they can lead me in the right direction... Keep fingers crossed!

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on Samsung Moment Without Official CL14 Update

If you re-read my How To it now only pertains to rooting a Moment without the official CL14 update. I linked to elephant007's How To for rooting with the official CL14 update.

Re: [HOW TO] Gain Permanent Root on Samsung Moment Without Official CL14 Update

I used this method to perfectly root my Moment, and I was happy. However, about 6 hours later sprint decided it was time to upgrade my phone to CL14, in preparation for Android 2.1 in 2 days.

So how do I change everything back to normal without losing all of my apps and data? Or can I run the updates like this?
