Copying files to windows directory

I am having problems copy files to the windows directory when using active sync. when I browse to the windows\ I am getting a read only error message. Is there a way around this? I would like try the blank startup tweak which requires to be placed in the windows directory.

I get the following error " cannot copy startup: access is denied

Be certain that there is enough free storage memory that the destination is not write protected and the file is currently in use.

I had to use a 3rd party file explorer to copy over files. I was trying to use the windows file explorer, to copy over the files.

Which one did you use? I ran into the same problems when trying to clean up my start menu. It wouldn't let me move those stupid Sprint TV, Music Store, Nascar... links. I had to do it from the device which is a pain.

I had to do it from the device too for some of the the start menu items (the ones in ROM).

I just copied StartUp.gif from my device \Windows folder to my desktop and back again with no problems using the Windows file manager (after pressing the "explore" button in Activesync). I'm on XP SP3. As another test, I overwrote password.gif in the \Windows folder using the same method, no warnings or errors. I tried that because it was a file I hadn't modified before.

Find another file that gives the warning and I'll try it on my device to see what happens.
