The new bing with turn by turn directions and intrepid

I'm sure most people have head about this now:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=120877

and the fix to make it work with the intrepid by disabling the update checker.
---
1. Locate the directory where the Bing app was installed (this depends on whether it was your storage card or internal memory )
\Program Files\Bing\

2. Locate the "Bing.config" file.

3. Open the config file (or a copy of the file if you want to be safe) in any text editor, whether on your PC, Mac, or on the phone itself. ( I copied the file to a PC and used Word Pad.

4. locate this line:
<add key="UseAppServerUpdates" value="True"/>

5. change the above line to the following:
<add key="UseAppServerUpdates" value="False"/>

(note: you changed one word from True to False)

6. Put the modified file back where you found it, with the same name as when you found it.

7. Launch Bing. Turn on GPS or do whatever you usually do to get the nag. You shouldn't get the nag anymore.

----

However, I have a few questions.

1. How do you add a favorite? When I go to favorites, it says you have no favorites, start searching to add favorites. Search where? How do I add once I find one? - NEVERMIND, YOU HAVE TO GO TO MAP VIEW, somehow, but it's hard to get back there!

2. Why does it not show up when using contacts, etc, and why does the bing option for look up by contact for an address say I have no contacts with addresses? This problem didn't exist on the other bing.

3. Any way to fix display resolution, like for the main screen?

4. Anyone notice strange crashes?

Thanks!

Re: The new bing with turn by turn directions and intrepid

with the fix I haven't had any crashes, and I just tried it this mourning using get derections from contacts, it works better they I thought it would, I don't realy use that feature, but wanted to see if it worked or not, it works for me.
It seams like these intrepids are all different, each with it's own set of quirks, but I realy like mine, and for what ever reason I realy don't have most of the issues mentioned by others.

You are not even using an intrepid, you're using an htc touch. Why did you post? This thread is about the intrepid.

uh...well...I got rid of my touch a few months ago, I have an intrepid, I may have mentioned that I used a touch just to reference something that I was explaining, but I believe, had you paid attention that I DO HAVE AN INTREPID, and that is what I use every day, if you can't pay attention why are you even posting...at all!

Tmair, your profile, when you made that last post, had you using the htc touch. As we can see, you updated it.

Yes I did, I never look at profiles, never thought to change it, but I said several times that I was using an intripid!! Maybe not in this thread, but you would think that since I posted that I was not having any of the problems with MY INTRIPED that others where having you would know that I had one.

Re: The new bing with turn by turn directions and intrepid

It also lists your model when you post, that's what confused me.

Did you do the firmware update?

I am having the problem of it not being able to look at my contacts, and favorites being deleted.

Did you edit bing.conf also?

Re: The new bing with turn by turn directions and intrepid

I have not done the update, it seams like there is no real benafit to doing it, not that I have been able to find out anyway.
For Bing, I have both cabs, just in case I have to do a hard reset and need to reinstall it, but the one I have installed is the regular cab, then I did the fix listed in the instructions that you have posted in the first post, like I mentioned I never really use the contact feature but when it was mentioned that they did not show up I tried it, it works for me, shows my contacts allows me to choose the one I want then maps to it, pretty slick it just dissapoints me that for what ever reason there was not a version released for QVGA, I think that is the problem with the program, atleast as far as I have been able to find out.
Terry

Edited to add: I never use the favorites feathure either, I will try it and see what happens!

Re: The new bing with turn by turn directions and intrepid

Weird, I wonder why it won't see my contacts. Also, it doesn't come up in the drop down menu when you are looking at a contact, like google maps does.

Did you edit bing.config for the fix, or no?

I'm very happy with the firmware update, btw.
