Reduce the screen brightness

I know how to change the brightness screen backlight thru the setting menu. But in the dark even 10% it way to bright. Does anyone know of a hack to allow me to lower the brightness any more.

I've looked into this because I completely agree...but I haven't been successful in finding a way to change it. In the registry, the key HKCU/ControlPanel/BackLight is a DWORD from 1 to 5, with (wait for it) 1 corresponding to the "10%" level and 5 corresponding to the 100% level. The values that those numbers 1 to 5 point to, which is what you want to change, have eluded me so far.

Be careful messing with the key above. IIRC I tried setting it to zero in one of my more experimental phases and I believe it knocked out the whole screen (backlight and LCD) so I couldn't recover without a hard reset. A PC-based remote registry editor might have fixed it but I wasn't aware of it at the time. :) Since this issue bugs me every single night, if I ever find a fix I'll update here and in my tips thread.

Sorry I don't have better news. You could try appealing to Samsung and tell them 2 people think their lowest backlight setting is still too bright. I'm sure they'll get right on that with the same speed they've been working on the issue of the message light indicator turning off when the phone goes into suspend mode...

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/For...d-1932b773b78e I found that page but it wasnt very comforting. Looks like the brightness slider is hardware specific according to what they said. So it may not be in the registry at all. I wish i had my old treo i could compare what keys that relate to the backlight.
