Windows Mobile 6.5 on i760

Is it possible to upgrade the Samsung i760 to have 6.5?

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 on i760

I have checked many forums for a WinMo 6.5 ROM and only found abandoned attempts to create one. Apparently it is more difficult to rip apart and rebuild a ROM from the Samsung as opposed to the HTC... This is the only regret I have from choosing this phone over a HTC model.

Not true on htc-samsung... maybe you guys can talk an Omnia Chef into making one for you... you'll need to donate your phone for a few days to the chef, but in the end it will be all worth it.

That is great to hear it is possible... I certainly like to believe that with persistence plus a healthy disbelief in the impossible most things can be achieved...

I found two threads of failed attempts one in xda-developers and one in pdaphonehome. http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/samsu...0-rom-r-d.html
What I read was that Samsung locked the phone to a "one time flash". So I would love to believe it is possible, but most i760 owners have flashed to wm 6.1 by now, and or have moved onto the "more better" and "newerest" phones. If you truly believe an Omnia cook would be interested in cooking a ROM for the few remaining rabidly loyal i760 owners, I would be very excited... except I could not depart with my phone.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 on i760

I hope my response above was taken as a thanks, because I am thankful you took the time to even read this thread and post a reply. I have just spent so much time (too much according to my wife) searching for ANY ROM's for the i760 that I have truly given up. But I will start to read some of the Omnia threads in this Forum and see what I can find... Maybe I will even get rid of the "Lurker" under HIYinOR. I have not found many reasons to post here yet, so I do indeed lurk vs. clutter threads.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 on i760

its kinda crazy to think it would be a "one-time" flash for the i760... my guess is you could use UMDL?? not sure tho. First things first, maybe you can learn how to cook a rom for it and figure a way to use UMDL... YOU, could be THE MAN! make sure you have insurance on your phone, just incase you freeze it, claim it lost

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 on i760

I have toyed with the idea of cooking a ROM, searched for and read some tutuorials... bookmarked even more. My 3 big hesitations are time, time and time. Time to do all the research (real search) and time to practice tearing things apart and of course the time banging my head against the brick wallwhen things go sour.
The crazy part is it sounds like fun

It really can be incredibly time consuming just getting up to speed... finding the right/best programs, the best/clear instructions, and of course good/reliable cooks who can help when the kitchen burns.
The crazy thing is it still sounds fun.
I'm just not sure how crazy I am these days.

Ok I'm still crazy... so I have to ask... have you cooked any ROM's?
How much time to get up to speed?
How long to build your first ROM? (above average geek with some gray hair)
How close did the learn/build process get you to losing a spouse or bf/gf?

Re: Windows Mobile 6.5 on i760

I would pay $10-15 bucks to get WM6.5 on my device working right.
