I was googling around for some Galaxy S info and found a person did a test of its ability...it was able to play MKV container in H264@High 720p natively...

In comparison to an EVO: An EVO can only run H264 base....not to mention doesn't natively support the HUGE list of formats that the Galaxy S supports...and even if someone makes an App..hardware video decode > software video decode....

So yes you should be impressed :P

That is great news indeed- no recoding- but will it allow a file greater than 2gb to be read off of the SD card - for some reason I thought the EVO had a problem with this?

Does it? what format was your SD card in, fat or fat32? It is also possible that those that the tested 2gb files were High profile instead of baseline thus wouldn't play on the EVO...

The Samsung Galaxy S though can even play 1080p without shutter(don't know if under high profile or not though)...

see here I actually don't have an EVO 4g so I'm not so sure if this is a real problem or just the way the SD card is formated (i.e. 2G limit of Fat32)?
