System>About Screen.. adding custom string? [SOLVED]

I have never seen this before nor did I know it was possible: (well, ANYHTING is possible..)

WM 6.5.1 build 23075 from da_g's xda thread.

This is done somewhere in SYS, not shell32.exe. it must be a modified file somewhere as there is no registry entry for this (plaintext at least), nor any plaintext in any of the SYS files. this must have been added to the source and then compiled into one of the files in SYS?? Does anyone know what file(s) controls the system>about screen? It is not in the XIP as I have changed XIPs to test.

edit: I am not trying to steal anyone's work here, I will gladly release with this in my kitchen. I am just looking to learn. It is pretty ugly though I don't know why someone would do this to something. I put my name on my stuff too but it all done in a simple EXT that can be changed by the end-user if they wanted..

Edit 2: I am talking about removing or changing the "Provided by Xda2_Haseeb" string.

he hex-edited shellres.dll.0409.mui\S000 to do this.

thanks for the info, I already know about HKLM\System\Versions\Aku. I just change mine to RZ (as you can see in the screenshot) and include it into the branding EXT in my kitchen. Maybe I did not look hard enough but before posting but I searched my registry for "haseeb" and came up with nothing. I also searched all provxmls and rgu's,m well every file in the SYS for the string xda and haseeb and came up with nothing.

Re: System>About Screen.. adding custom string?

Did you look in the xip?

Also, windows grep is your friend.

EDIT: Oh, now I see what you are talking about. Pretty sure that is a hex edit.

Re: System>About Screen.. adding custom string?

there is no way they have source, Microsoft will take a dump on your back and sue ur pants off if u got that.

Look what happened when juicy leaked 6.5 source in his rom. PPCG got personally contacted by MS

Re: System>About Screen.. adding custom string?

lol yeah I kinda forgot windows was closed-source. hah. I was thinking it is a hex edit, any ideas what file, probably dll, that has those strings in it? How about general ideas, like Shell or OS modules? I guess I will recmod shell and OS and look in all the dll's till I find it. I will report back.. (in a long time this is gonna take forever... oh well I am sure I will learn a lot about where various strings are defined.. I dont think MS would hardcode very much.. or then again maybe that contributes to why they have 50 patches for their desktop OS every day...

anyone wonder where the solitaire cards are kept? pegcards.dll lol so far not what I am after though..

ok its not in any dll in OS or SHELL.

I still do not know how haseeb did it, (well obviously he just hexed it in - but how he knew where... I don't know) you do not have a shellres.dll.0409.mui in your sys?
