Interesting concept, however, lets see if we can walk before we try running!

Linux runs on the apache already (Wideawake - who hasn't posted much lately??) played with it a while back.

It would be worth playing with that, but right now they don't have the radio side working. Which is kinda bad for a phone

... I'm sorry. This isn't going to happen. The iPhone isn't truly running OS X!!!

Admittedly, it depends on what exactly you consider OS X. If you consider it to be just the Mach kernel, then you might have an argument. If you consider it all the way through to Cocoa, then hell no, it's not running OS X.

Don't buy into the hype, because that's all it is.

On top of that, it'd be like trying to port Symbian - considering how vastly different the hardware is, it'd be nigh impossible anyways, unless we have a hell of a hardware developer around here without knowing it.

What would be the benefit to having Symbian? Is it better than WM?

Symbian a very compact, fast OS, popular in older European phones, but never caught on here due to palm and M$.
I still have my Psion"Revo" sitting in my closet with other old PDAs, it was sweet, but M$ is it now.

Also as to apple, I would not replicate anything they do as they are very active in sueing anybody that replicates their OS.

Onto the thread topic, I say this is the best thing that could happen. A single standard base 3.5 OS sounds great.

Re: PPCGeeks Unified ROM Project: HERE IS YOUR ROM TEAM!!

just ran into this and it sounds interesting... for what it's worth I still have an Apache I use for testing, and am willing to be a tester for this as well.
no sweat either way, and am just glad other O/S's are gaining ground on these devices.
