Tap to Change Account Settings stopped working

I have a Palm Treo Pro, running WM 6.1 professional and Mobile Shell 3.0.1.

When I got the device, I set up two email accounts, which were both able to send and receive mail. I was able to go into Options and "Tap an account to change settings."

However, I now find that when I tap on account (to change settings", a few blue dots appear briefly then nothing happens. Unfortunately, tapping on "New Account" doesn't open any dialogue box either now, so I can't even delete the accounts and recreate them!

I exited Mobile Shell 3 but it made no difference.

I know I can at least delete accounts successfully, as I tried one to see...

I can't think that I've done anything dodgy recently.

I am aware that there is an issue with WM 6.1 where an SMTP error can stop an account from sending but this isn't the problem I'm having. In any case, I installed the patch for that and it made no difference.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

Yes, I eventually had to hard reset. I was able to adjust mail settings then. However, I then restored my backup and was back to square one - no access to mail settings!

In the end I have had to hard reset, then add programmes back one by one. So far I have reinstalled about ten programmes, checking each time that I could still adjust my email settings. No problem so far...though I still have a few to go including SKTools.

Re: Tap to Change Account Settings stopped working

I'm posting this as it may help others later.

My Treo Pro is an "Enterprise device." This means that the company IT administrator (BOFH) can do certain things to my device remotely.

I was having an issue synching my Lotus Notes mail and calender, so he performed (with my agreement) a remote "Uninstallation" of Lotus Notes Traveller.
Unfortunately, when you do this, you also disable the function to add or alter any non Lotus email accounts. This is a security measure.
Once he understood what was going on, he was able to quickly resolve the issue in his console.

The remote administration of these devices is very powerful indeed and there is a lot you can do.

This was a genuine error on the part of our BOFH, who has suddenly been lumbered with a bunch of devices to administer and is still learning.
