Contact Sync dilemma!!!

OK....here is the situation (and I did a search, but nothing has worked so far) I had to do a full system recovery on my PC, and start from scratch. I installed ActiveSync and Outlook from the CD included with the phone, and did a sync. Everything synced over to the PC fine except for the contacts....I can't get them to sync to the PC from the phone no matter what I try. I did a PIM backup, so I know I won't lose them, but I would like to get them back in the PC in Outlook. Any suggestion would be appreciated, I have spent hours trying to accomplish this already, and could use a bit of help!!!!

Thanks ahead of time!!!

Did you have exchange setup? If so then it will get blocked between PC and phone. Other area will be checking the sync option on your PC and make sure contact sync is enabled and maybe for the first time let the device to overwrite the PC to force it over.

I have to admit to ignorance on what your trying to tell me. Is Exchange different than ActiveSync? I installed both SC and Outlook fresh right off the CD, so if Exchange came with them, maybe I do have it. Plus, everything went over to the PC but for the contacts, is there something different about them that I have to look for? Thanks for responding, I appreciate the help!

Exchange is part of the activesync. You can pair only one exchange server instance while you can pair multiple PCs with outlook as long as the total instances are less than 8 (note that hotmail, sms, and possible mms hack count as well). If you setup the exchange server, then its contact will take over and all your PC outlook contact sync will be disabled, unless you disabled that part. I have my Treo setup with company exchange server so I can not really sync with my own PC on contacts.

How do I check on that? Is that a PC function, or on the phone? I am getting used to the idea of having my contacts on PIM backup only, but I would really like to get them on my PC as well!!

You can check both ways. On your PPC, goto activesync, if you see Exchange server entry there then you have configured that. To drill down, hit Menu->Configure Server->Next, hit Advance button, Next, you will see the Edit Server setting and you must uncheck the contacts to de-link it from Exchange server. After that I think you should be able to link it with your Outlook.

However, it has a problem because if you select removing sync contact with exchange server, it will delete your entire PIM, which is kind of sucks. Usually I would do is unpair with exchange then sync with office PC to get the contact back then sync with home PC. I am not sure after you de-link with the exchange server and restore your PIM will get all your contacts back or not. I would suggest to do a full backup and play with it.

I got it playing around with it last night. I opened options in ActiveSync on the PC, and the contacts were able to be clicked this time. I don't know why, but the contacts are in my Outlook now, and 'if it ain't broke...."

Thanks guys, all your suggestions helped, I appreciate all the input!!
