Treo KeyLight: New App from PocketMax! (Now Out!)

It's OUT NOW! Go get it...

http://www.pocketmax.net/smf/index.php?board=35.0

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Backstory:

Okay, I contacted Bruce awhile back re: a toggle app that controls the behavior of the KB lights on the Treo. After heavily beta testing his PhoneAlarm 1.56 which finally added the Screen light control for the Treo, he agreed to do it.

Turns out it was slightly harder than expected but this morning and after about 12 betas, he resolved all issues and it works well (at least on my device, ahem). So it should be released this afternoon for others to try.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

What it does/How it works:

Basically, it's a small .exe file that you just drop on your device. Not sure if there will be an installer/cab file.

You can then create a shortcut to that program and map a hardware button to it (I use the traditional side key).

The app is simple: when you press the assigned button, it turns the KB lights off. Hold it again, it turns them back on.

This will save significant battery life, imo, since you don't have to power all 35 LEDs.

It is also FREEWARE, so make sure you thank Bruce! He spent a good 2 weeks on this and he doesn't even own a Treo!

All you do is go under Settings --> Buttons and pick "Hold Side" and choose KeyLight from the context menu.

Quick Question, I think

I had this keylight program on my phone yesterday, I also assigned it to the side key that normally runs WMP. When I would push it down it would turn my KB lights on and off but it would also make my screen blink/blank. That bothered me so I deleted the program off of my phone. Now my KB lights don't work at all.

How do I get them back to normal again?

Did you leave them off before uninstalling the app? Have you made a soft reset?

BTW, that blink/blank behavior is by design. It has to do that in order to turn the lights back on.

Oh, well that stinks that it does that blink/blank thing. It makes me nervous but at least now I know its not just mine. Thank you for explaining.

I re-installed it this morning and so my KB is lighting on and off again. I was hoping to find out that there was a way to fix the behavior but oh well ....

Thanks for the reply!
