question about the hard reset

What does it reset?

If I do a hard reset, do I have to reprogram it in any way? Can i make a phone call as soon as its over?

Well first ask yourself "why am I doing a hard reset". Are you trying to fix a glitch or something else?

Secondly, yes, the hard reset will wipe out EVERYTHING that you've loaded. Your phone will be just as it was the day you took it out of the box.

I would suggest making a backup of your phone (use Sprite, etc.) before hard resetting. That way you'll be able to easily load everything back on to it.

However if you have a major problem with a program/app...restoring from a backup file will of course reinstall the same problem.

Ok i get that it will be out of the box new. But does that save the seeting from sprint? as in my phone number and such

Yes...your phone number and all associated files will not be lost. You can still make and receive phone calls immediately after a hard reset.
