Hold down the end key (red call button) and press the reset button. Follow the instructions on the screen.

FYI.... you need to re-install the SMS patch if you want to text message anyone other than Sprint customers.

Well that's only if he has version 1.13 - many new users receive version 1.14 which already has the SMS patch in ROM so they don't have to worry about it.

you can also go to the Palm website (if you have a Sprint 700wx) and download their HardRest software

I think that that Palm app will also erase your phone programming though... I'm not sure, I haven't used it, but I got that from the description.

Quote:
This functions as much more than a hard reset by formatting the user storage on your smartphone and erasing all third-party applications, personal info, and settings.
That quote is from that link. Has anyone used this app?

I've used it on a Verizon 700w and it did not remove my phone programming. I am 99.999 percent sure.

It deletes users storage, so any document you created after you removed it out of the box, in any folder will get deleted.

It deletes apps, so any apps you installed after taking it out of the box will be removed.

It will delete any setting you applied (ring tones, ringer volume, etc.), therefore, it will be restored back to standard settings as if you just took it out of the box.

The app or physical hard reset only deletes any new data/app installed after you took it out of the box. All apps are installed in the Treo's ROM (Read Only Memory). That means, it can ONLY be read, not written or deleted. Unless you have the proper hardware to reprogram it.
