Attempting to enable MMS but disable any other data

Hi guys,

In searching, I have run across many threads relating to using MMS on the Treo, and how it will not work as long as there is a data block on your account.

What I'm wondering, though, is is there any way, while still having the data plan enabled, to avoid using anything that will actually USE data, aside from MMS, which would be charged according to my messaging plan? For instance, are there any settings I can change? If not, how about just the best practices in order to avoid any data charge?

For instance, I'm assuming it would be a bad idea to open up Outlook or IE if I'm trying to avoid data usage. Anything else? Any way to keep the MMS functionality but still be safe from racking up other data usage?

Thanks for reading!

Luke

Just guessing, but I think you're going to have to leave your data connection enabled. I don't believe there's a seperate servers for MMS and internet connections. As you correctly pointed out, a data connection is necessary for MMS as well as email.

Those more knowledgeable than I in this area may have a different suggestion (poss reg hacks?)

Re: Attempting to enable MMS but disable any other data

I'm thinking Geekcop pretty much nailed it.

As far as ways to avoid incuring data usage...avoid Outlook, any browser, any weather applications (e.g., Weather Panel), etc.

late,
Coz
