Use a Verizon Treo on Sprint ??

Hey everybody, please excuse my ignorance here, but I can't seem to find any reliable info on this.
I have Sprint Cell service, by buddy upgraded his phone and gave me his old verizon treo 700w , I would like to give this phone to my wife and activate it on the sprint network. I have pieced together some info and the only thing that people seem to agree on is that it can be done but the phone would only work with the phone funtionality, all the data/sms etc. would be disabled. Does anyone have any experience with this? Can it be done and how would I go about activating the phone on Sprint? The local Sprint store chick just said " Nope, we only activate Sprint phones." Thanks for any help on this! Also is there a way to get the data working too?

Re: Use a Verizon Treo on Sprint ??

If I recall correctly, if it is not branded by Sprint, they will not activate it.

As far as what you are referring to... I believe it is cloning, that... I don't know if/how it can be done and the legal aspects of it.

Re: Use a Verizon Treo on Sprint ??

Due to the terms of a recently settled lawsuit, Sprint must activate phones that are compatible with it's network, IF IT CAN DO SO. Unfortunately for you, going to the store is probably the wrong option. No one there will want to take time to reset some of the settings to make it work on Sprint. You may have better luck over the phone.

Would the sales dept or tech support be more likely to help? What are your thoughts?

Re: Use a Verizon Treo on Sprint ??

call from your home phone and when the automated voice asks what you want to do say "activate my phone" and just follow the steps that the person tells you. The worst they say is it isn't workin and tell you goodbye.
