Gmail problem?

When I hit Send/Receive trying to retrieve my email, I get this notice:

"Message cannot be downloaded to your device. Make sure you are connected and that your email account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again."

However, it still DL's my mail but it will not let me respond to any. Is this something wrong on my end?

Darn... I've never heard of that one before. I assume you are using Pocket Outlook. Have you tried deleting the account and setting up again?

I also know that there are some special steps needed when setting up for GMail to work, I can never remember them though since I don't use GMail

There could be a couple things that you need to do.

1. username must have @gmail.com behind it
2. incoming mail server info: pop.gmail.com:995
3. outgoing mail server info: smtp.gmail.com:465

Note the port numbers (995 and 465). Gmail uses different ports than most everyone else. Something to do with their security I think.

The information above is the solution to your problem. Make sure you are using the settings above and you will not recieve that error again.

I've also found this information on different posts around the 'net...

Quote:
Go to Messaging -> Menu -> Tools -> Options -> (Select your gmail account)

Now, start hitting next until you get to the screen named 'E-mail Setup (4/4)'

Hit the 'Options' button.

Hit 'Next' until you get to the 'Options (3/3)' screen.

Make sure the selection in the drop down box is 'Get message headers only', in addition to the 'Include' checkbox being checked and the box denoting KB of message body has the number 999 in it.
IIRC, if you don't do this the messages disappear after being read, or they get deleted from the server without you ever deleting them... something like that.

Yea, I ended up just deleting it and then reinstalling, which worked it all out.

Check your other post for the answer on how to delete accounts. IIRC correctly, you don't need a domain for Gmail.

Still having problems with this, and the same error message is still showing up. What goes under Domain name? And do I need @gmail.com after every username? This is incredibly frustrating, since I have to open IE everytime I receive an email in order to respond. Anyone who has this installed properly, could you please help!
