Using Voice Command with a wired headset's Headset Button

I just setup Voice Command (v 1.5, which comes preinstalled*) and it's great! I currently have the Side Key activate voice command mode, but it would be far more preferable to assign this feature to the Headset Button of a wired headset, like the one included (I'm fully aware that Bluetooth headsets are not currently supported ). Has anyone been able to get this to work? Perhaps I need a better headset?

...On a related topic, it would be great if the same Headset Button could pause music playback - an ideas on this?

* - I can't believe that in the phone's manual they try to sell you the Sprint PCS Voice Command Service, when you can presumably do the same thing with the installed Voice Command software!
Unless there's something special that the service can do? I doubt it...
