did i brick my treo doing a 1.22 update?

i have a treo 700wx that i tried to update to the new 1.22 verision of the software, half way through the update my connection was lost and i could not reconnect it and now whenever i try to boot up the phone it just comes onto the treo screen with the number 4.12 in blue with 4.12.00 in red underneath it! I've tried hard reset soft reset etc but it seems that the reset button does not even respond i tried rerunning the updater but it cannot find the connection however when i connect it to my computer it says that it recognizes "htc sync device" and does the connection sound for windows xp. any clues about how i can unbrick this expensive paperweight? i've called treo and they want 200 bucks to fix it because i bought it used i'm pissed i can't believe that an update can turn the phone into a useless pile of circuts and the company who makes it wont even own up to their own errors! any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!
