Did Sprint break my keypad?

You are gonna love this one.

So, my 700wx was acting up,

1. backlight would dim and brighten randomly. Even when the battery was not warm.
2. phone would freeze, once a day, causing a soft reset.

Both of these issues were not that big of deal, but should be fixed.

Anyway, I brought the phone to sprint so they could take a look at it and send me out their typical refurbished replacement in 3 to 5 days. The tech took the phone apart and of course stated that there was nothing he could do and ordered me a replacement.

Here is the problem.

I got a call when i was leaving the store and could not answer it using any of the hard keys. it would only respond to touchscreen? As I looked further into it, it would not respond to any keystroke. No keys work. not even the "end"button. I even performed a hard reset using the palm device reset that you can sync to the phone.

Sorry for the long description, but what should I do. I immediately called the tech back and he of course said that its was "bound" to happen. Huh?

Am I stuck until i get my replacement? Thanks everyone for taking the time to read my overly descriptive post.

Re: Did Sprint break my keypad?

Does the keypad light up at all? Maybe the tech didn't reconnect it after taking the phone apart.

I have a friend whose keypad on her Treo failed with the same symptoms as yours. I was able to "wiggle" the phone for it to work. I ended up replacing it. That phone is real easy to take apart if you want to check. You are getting a replacement anyway so it wouldn't hurt any to take it a part and check.

Re: Did Sprint break my keypad?

You might be right. I just called it and nothing on the keypad lights up. What size screw driver should I use and what exactly do I need to do to reconnect the keypad? Thanks alot.

Re: Did Sprint break my keypad?

It uses a Torx size 5 screwdriver.. I think I used a regular screwdriver from a pc repair kit though. That's all I had available. Once you are in there, there are also 2 phillips that hold down the keypad. I forgot if I removed those.

Just as a note there is a screw behind a rubber plug by the antenna. I missed it for a while when I tried to get in.

Re: Did Sprint break my keypad?

I was able to get everything apart. It was alot easier than I expected. It looks like the small clip that holds down the keypad was snapped off. Nice. I took a piece of a business card< folded it a couple of times and wedged it in there. I still have no lights, but the majority of my keys work. Only the very outside letters dont get recognized. This is tolerable for 3 da
