wireless sync/gmail

Ok, not sure if I have just confussed myself or if the verizon technical service people have confussed me???

I have 2 gmail accounts that I want to access on my 700w. One rep at V told me that I could only do it through verizon wireless sync. I am pretty sure that I don't have to go thru wireless sync. One v rep told me that I have to go thru wireless sync AND add the gmail accounts in my messaging area. Yet, another told me that I didn't have to mess with wireless sync?

Maybe it's my fault I had questions about it, I just wanted to make sure that I was doing it correctly.

Thanks!

Depends on how you want it set up.

The easiest way (without requiring any additional services) is through POP access. What you lack in this is wireless push access (POP checks for new mail about every 15-20 minutes. Further, POP access only sends your emails when it checks for new mail.). You can enable POP access in the gmail settings.

ActiveSync only supports 1 exchange account. If you would like to have push ability, you can set up an exchange host to forward one of your gmail accounts to (I suggest mail2web.com's $1.99/mo service which allows you to have your gmail address displayed for that account). Then you could set up a POP for the other gmail account.

Again, this is not including Verizon's service, since I don't know anything about it.

Try this to get your gmail received by the Outlook/Messaging app:

It works for me! One enhancement to the instructions - if it doesn't say anything specific, don't do it (for example I left the domain fields blank). Also be sure to use the ports, specified with colons like so.
pop.gmail.com: 995
smtp.gmail.com: 465

One other thing to consider before downloading messages - choose "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on" in gmail's settings if you want to avoid downloading tons of old messages.

Thanks, I will try that. It seems like the Wireless Sync thru Verizon is hit or miss. All of a sudden the Wireless Sync server is 'unable to connect' to gmail and I have to manually go into WS on my laptop and reconnect it.
