i think palm may have fixed the issue for the time being, their initial method left a hole for apple to patch in terms of the vendor id. (the pre now identifies itself by the apple vendor id) palm has also gone and filed a complaint for unfair usage of the vendor id to restrict open access to the usb standard.

any further move by apple may require specific targeting of the pre, which would certianly be seen as monopolistic in terms of restriction of consumer fair use

apple will lose this fight in the long run, unless an incompetent judge intervenes
