Apple Releases iTunes 8.2.1 - Kills Palm Pre Sync Dead

As the title reads according to sources at precentral. It was only a matter of time.

iTunes 8.2.1 provides a number of important bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices.

Not a big deal to me at all. I use MediaMonkey myself, and it syncs fine to my Pre. I've never used iTunes, and see no reason to ever use it.

Everyone cracks on Microsoft about being money mongers... but Apple is far worse. Apple thinks it's a good idea to charge 3 times as much for a computer that has half the power, and markets themselvs as a status symbol more than a company that makes good products. Then they top it off by blocking devices from iTunes? The way they think is completely stupid.

Apple...

Blocking other devices so people have to buy an iPod to use our service.

That is going to cost them, not make them money. Why use iTunes and Apple music store if it doesn't work for the device you ALREADY HAVE? People aren't going to run out and buy iPods just because they blocked out the Pre or any other device. Everyone will find an alternative. Hopefully Apple will trip over their own greed at some point, and their prices will fall with them on the way down. An "economic faceplant" so to speak.

Correct. It's that simple. If you use iTunes with you Pre don't update.

Just don't update. Getting my Pre Saturday, when I get it Ill sync my music then update Itunes. Apple pisses me off, like really why block a device from syncing music. Limits potential buyers (music and videos from iTunes) if you ask me.

Once I sync I will use something else for my Pre and use ITunes for my Touch.

Weird I have the 8.2.16 I tunes and it saw my Pre synched with it and downloaded all 800 tracks. Everything plays just fine on my pre

i'm glad palm decided to go after apple on this one - for all the crap that microsoft gets, apple is much worse when it comes to being unfriendly to consumers.

i hate itunes as much as everyone else, but it is just easier to keep using a library that i already have all of my music in

it should be interesting to see is apple can counter the new method, as long as palm identifies itself as an apple device with their vendor code, it would seem difficult for itunes to tell the difference
